The decision to relocate our family from NYC to Connecticut was not an easy one! We started
the search with a lot of uncertainty about whether to move. And because we don't have many
friends or any family in Connecticut, we also didn't know the area at all. On top of that, having
only rented apartments in NYC, we had no idea what we really wanted in a house. So, when we
met Lori, we had questions and concerns about everything from the style, aseatic and
functionality of houses, to the vibe of each town, the school districts, and activities for kids. We
would be a daunting challenge for any broker! However, from the moment we met Lori, we felt
at ease and that we were in capable and caring hands. She didn't make us feel like she was on a
timetable, or was just looking to make a sale. Rather, she felt like an informed guide whose goal
was to find the town and home that was right for us. Since we were still based in NYC, the time
we had available to see houses was limited and getting access to them was competitive.
However, Lori was flexible and accommodating - giving generously of her time on the
weekends, hustling to schedule as many house tours as we wanted to see in one day (which was
sometimes as many as 8-10), and was responsive and communicative throughout the week. It

of them had offers before we even got to see them, or they required a best and final offer that
evening, which was stressful when we had spent only about 15 min touring before the next
appointment showed up. At one open house in particular, which we went to on our own, the line
was literally down the driveway and along the block. We waited and waited for our turn, only to
be told when we neared the front that the open house was over. We pleaded with the gatekeeping
brokers to allow us to do a quick lap. They relented, but shooed us in and out. Nevertheless,
it was our favorite house so far, but we had seen it for less than 10min. and didn't know what to
do. We talked to Lori at length and upon hearing how torn we were, she pulled off the
impossible. She was somehow able to arrange for us to go back to the house to tour it again, but
with the owners there instead of the brokers. Not only did we get to spend nearly 45 min looking
at every detail in the house, but we bonded with the owners, who gave my kids Ring Pops, let
them play with their dogs and chatted with us about their daughter's upcoming move to NYC. We
stood in the driveway and made an above-ask offer and then rushed home to write a letter
describing how much we hoped to see our kids grow up in the "Ring Pop house", as we had
nicknamed it. As it turned out, the house had received dozens of offers that day, and we barely
cracked the top 10. It was then that we started to feel discouraged with the search. Clearly, any
house that we would want, would be in high demand for others too. And it became apparent that
given the bidding wars, we would be priced out of anything for which we felt was worth leaving
the City. This on top of the challenges of low inventory, an influx of New Yorkers looking
for similar things, our lease coming due, our free weekends increasingly limited, and all of the
other challenges that come with house hunting during Covid with 3 kids in tow. But again, Lori
pulled off the impossible. She had kept mentioning a house that she thought we would love, but
it wasn't yet on the market. Honestly, since the house wasn't listed we didn't pay much attention
whenever she mentioned this, but she felt so strongly that this house would resonate with us, that
she kept reaching out to the family living there to see whether they had made a decision to sell. It
was now September and we were about to take a much-needed vacation over Labor Day
weekend. Lori said that she wanted to call the family one more time to ask if we could just see
the house. We were exhausted, the kids were cranky, and we weren't really interested in seeing
one more house. But the owners said we could come take a look, so out of courtesy, we went to

UVA baseball cap hanging on a hook (Koby and I met at UVA Law!) and our city kids were
running free in the yard playing with the owner's 2 labrador retrievers (the exact breed of dogs
we both grew up running in our childhood yards with). The universe was clearly telling us that
THIS was our house. And because the house was not on the market, we were in a position to
make it our home. Another silver lining is that instead of a stressful, rushed, impersonal,
competitive, arms-length transaction between brokers, we feel as if we inherited the house from a
family, and we had the opportunity to get to know them. They let our kids watch Netflix while
we took measurements, and we were able to text them just last week when a strange alarm
started going off. We're now Facebook friends and I text them photos of the kids enjoying their
new backyard. We have Lori to thank for finding us our future home. She really took the time
to understand our family, our needs, and our conflicted feelings about relocating. Despite the
challenges of searching during Covid, and from a distance, she was available, resourceful and
