"I was not surprised to hear that Joan Bischoff van Heemskerck and Nicholas Planamento had joined Town & Country Real Estate to run the North Fork offices. I had worked with them when they were associated with another company, and where they each stood out due to their integrity as well as their unique senses of both aesthetic and interpersonal style. I knew that these and other qualities and strengths of character would allow them to work together wonderfully well. I had spent every summer of my life in Mattituck, I wanted to find a rental property for the following summer. Money was an issue to us at the time, but Nich didn't make it one. He showed us properties exactly like what we had described, and well within our means, never wasting his time, or ours. He was knowledgeable about every aspect of each property, and believe me, I ask very detailed questions. One of the things I appreciate about Joan and Nich is that they really listen to me, and it shows in their actions. I had the sad task of selling our family's summer home after my mother's death, and after different members of our family had owned it for nearly 60 years. The discovery that my siblings were not interested in keeping it was hard, and the kindness and understanding that Joan extended to me in any part of the sale which he handled, is something I will never forget. Joan has an old-world European elegance sorely needed in this country. I never felt pushed or even felt that Joan thought of what he was doing as work. In every conversation he silently conveyed that he was honored to be helping me, and you know? You can't put a price tag on that. ecause I had spent every summer of my life in Mattituck, I wanted to find a rental property for the following summer.
