IRVINGTON
One of the few villages that has been able to thwart change and remain a “sleepy town” is Irvington. The village is located 45 minutes from New York City along the eastern bank of the Hudson River via the Hudson line of Metro North. With a population of 6,500, Irvington is one of the smaller Rivertowns.
Thought to have originally been founded in 1692 and incorporated in 1872, it is originally part of Frederick Phillipse’s holdings. From as far back as the 1850’s, Irvington has attracted the wealthy crowd from New York City. Many of these large estates exist today but housing has diversified since offering many options from new condos to older Colonials to village estates.
Irvington’s schools consist of public schools, high school, Parochial school, nursery school and several private schools that are close by. Recreational facilities provide playgrounds, pool, picnic areas, lighted tennis courts, a winter ice rink, and fields for baseball, soccer and football.
This lovely town is filled with history and is home to quaint shops, beautiful homes and breathtaking Hudson River views.
