This is the Fund’s 10th Anniversary and thanks to the efforts of our 350 employees and over 3,000 sales associates who have held fundraisers, played in our golf tournaments, made donations through payroll deductions, and with thanks to all who have purchased and sold our sought-after, well-known pink raffle tickets, we have raised TWO MILLION DOLLARS! We are very proud of everyone’s enthusiasm and participation.
2014 is also the year that marks the completion of our $750,000 pledge to the University of Connecticut Health Center Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, where the William Raveis ACS Patient Navigator Program was created. In addition, our pledge of $175,00 was fulfilled for the American Cancer Society’s Patient Navigator Program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Hope Lodge in Massachusetts.
The William Raveis Charitable Fund has also directed funds to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts, The Breast Cancer Alliance in Connecticut, and presented a $100,000 William Raveis Young Investigator Grant to Dr. Maysa Abu-Khalad, MD at Yale University. Most recently, we have integrated the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center into our portfolio of beneficiaries.
The Patient Navigator programs and Hope Lodge are vital services for patients and families going through treatment...
these are programs we continue to support.
Through the assistance of these programs, patients navigate through breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. They move from consultations with medical professionals to decisions about treatment to concerns about finances and how to care for loved ones. The Patient Navigators work with the patients and partner with hospital staff to make sure newly diagnosed cancer patients, their families and caregivers receive the support they need.
Another vital program for cancer patients is The Hope Lodge in Boston, which offers lodging for patients and their companions free of charge while the patient is undergoing cancer treatment. Since it's opening in 2008, the Hope Lodge in Boston has provided over 45,000 nights of free lodging to 1,450 cancer patients from 46 states and 12 countries, saving them more than $8 million in housing costs. These services are invaluable to those who are traveling to Boston for treatment and may already be feeling the financial medical burden.
